Modelling tab not working

For this connection, you could directly connected to the data model, so all these modeling processes could be done in the basic data model.

What's the data source and method of connecting?
And is this a new thing? Is it particular to this report?
Can you connect to a local test Excel file and use powerbi as normal (for testing)?
