Modelling for Self-Service

Hello community.

Below are some screenshots of a model which contains multiple fact and dimension tables.

The fact tables have different granularity and they are also covering different parts of the business. Therefore fact tables have relationships to some dimensions but not all.

My question:

What is the best approach to create a base model for Power BI users from different parts of the business (without them knowing details of the model) ?

Currently the model works but the Power BI user needs to know which dimensions can be used. Is it somehow possible to create a subset within the model and expose that to the users? I want something similar to the "Layout" view in the "Model" tab but on the  "Report" tab. The screenshots show that in the Model tab there are different layouts which represent the fact and the related dimensions (STAR SCHEMA).

Any recommendations or best practises how to model something flexible for multiple users?

Thanks Peter

Yes, you can hide tables, columns and measures within the data model to only expose users to what they need to see. In the data tab (middle), right-click tables, columns and measures and choose "Hide in report view".

Thank you Greg for the quick reply. I am aware that I can hide tables, but I dont want to hide the tables in general.

What  i want is something like:

Fact A with Dimension A and B

Fact B with Dimension B and C

Ideally i dont want to create multiple models.

Hi @petermichael ,

It seems there is no feasible way to achieve it after my researching.
