Missing option "Layout"?

I am missing settings in visualizations even though I have the latest version. Have ticked all the boxes under "Preview features". Why can't I see everything?

Mainly I miss the settings on the x and y axis for bar charts and line charts. For example the options "Layout" should contain more settings? At least if I ask chatGPT, it says "Under X-axis, go to the Max Labels or Label Density setting." I dont have these settings?

Hi @jeseng

Unfortunately, there's no built-in option to selectively modify which axis labels are shown. If the bar is present, the label will also be displayed—except in cases where there isn't enough space, in which the engine automatically hides some labels, especially on a categorical axis.

However, there is a workaround using data labels and conditional formatting to achieve a similar effect. The final result will look like this:

Note: This solution is only applicable to column charts, not line charts.

I've attached a PBIX file for reference. If needed, I can record a screen tutorial on how to implement it.

In the graph in the image, the X-axis is a categorical axis, so there is no option to set a minimum and maximum, as it doesn't logically exist. The Y-axis, on the other hand, is an aggregation axis, and therefore, it's possible to define a minimum and maximum there – see the attached image.
Additionally, I see that you wrote something in the search box, meaning you filtered some of the settings. It might be a good idea to leave everything open and go through all the options once to get familiar with and learn them.

PBIX is attached too

With all the best in your learning, it's important to mention that using ChatGPT during the learning stages is not recommended because, ultimately, its response depends on your ability to phrase the question, which may not be accurate when you’re not fully familiar with the tool, and sometimes it can make mistakes.

Thank you for your response.
I find that chatGPT have helped me many times with very good solutions in the past. Lately I've just find that it talks about layout-settings that I dont have in my version. Maybe the examaple above was a bad one, I have two other ones:

jeseng_0-1726643356818.png

Bar chart: I would like to show only every other label; 0-4 years, 10-14 yeras etc. ChatGPT means that there should be settings for "label density settings".
Line chart: I would like to show the years 2000, 2010, 2020. ChatGPT again refers to settings in the layout of the x axis, that I dont have.

Hi @jeseng
This is again not a layout issue...If you want to show only a part of a group of ages , you should filter out the unwanted ones.

If you want to show bigger bins of years you should have a column in your data table which groups these years and use it on the graph.

Again a box is attached.

@jeseng
This is exactly the issue I explained...
You need to create a bins in the data table.
You can refer to the linked video to get more detailed explanation.

In my bar chart the labels are not numeric, I was under the impression that you can only use bin for numeric values? This is my data, very simple. What I want is to show ALL the bars but only every other label.

If i make list of "every other" label and use that in my bar chart it looks like this:

I apologize, English is not my first language and I fail to explain what I am looking for. I have marked in red what I had hoped to achieve.

jeseng_0-1726645322212.png

When I give chatGPT all the details in my data (which is very simple) and explain what I want to do this is it's response:
"1. Select your line chart in Power BI.
2. Go to the Visualization panel on the right.
3. Under X-axis, look for the setting for Max Labels or Label Density."
So at some point there should be a setting for the maximum number of labels, for a line chart, I thought...

@jeseng Depending on the type of x-axis (categorical or continuous) some setting disappears. Seems like in your case the type is "categorical" and maybe because of it you don't see those settings.

Thank you for your respones.
I am a aware of x-axis being categorical or continuous, and I have played around with it, without finding the settings. Maybe it was a bad example. I also have this line chart, accourding to chatGPT there should be settings for how many labels appear on the axis, but I cant find anything like that.

jeseng_1-1726643761556.png

There is no such setting in graph.
As I mentioned in the previous response you should prepare the data according to your needs.
You can download the attached pbix and follow my steps.
