Hello everyone! 😁
i have an issue. I try to find a trend line function inside chart visualization, but i cannot find it. For your information, my desktop version is september version. The example is in the image below;
I choose clustered column chart, and to look for trend line, i go to the analytic function. But i cannot find trend line function.
After i cannot find trend line function in analytic pane, i try to check in x-axis in format pane. But i also cannot find the function.
Can anyone help me with this? Will be a very big help. Thanks in advance! 😀
I know it is a very old thread, but more information was needed here, there can be other factors that could avoid Trend Line, for example, are you using small Multiples in addition to clustered column chart, are you using secondary values , in that also it might not work etc
The trend line not showing all dates is an issue that needs to be sorted.... there is no option to keep the formatting of the date range you want, and always defaults to something like: "Jan 2019 - Apr 2019 - Jun 2019 - Aug 2019", instead of "Jan 2019 - Feb 2019 - Mar 2019 - Apr 2019 - May 2019 - Jun 2019 - Jul 2019 - Aug 2019" OR any other date combination.... you can do that in Excel, just not in the Power Bi visual where a "trend line" is required, also this option only shows when you have your Dates as Continuous... if you choose categorical the trend line option disappears.... ive spent hours trying to sort this out - its just not possible using Power Bi in its current iteration (latest as of this post)
Hi @New_be ,
Please review the method in the following blog and check if that can resolve your problem. If no, please provide the fields which applied on the clustered column chart and some sample data for these fields?
How to Add a Trend Line in Power BI Chart

Hi Armitchandak,
It's a late reply to your question I know - but I have a minute spare 🙂
You make a very good point and yes we could use those other lines in our charts, but.... the trend line is a function in Power Bi that can be used by developers - but it disappears from selection and it is this that we are hoping to get resolved.
For example it will appear only if you choose the right graph type and even then it can disappear again if changing the formatting within the chart... very frustrating for the many of us wanting to use this feature easily without having to build in overlays etc... or as you say use a different line for the same purpose..
For others veiwing this thread who maybe dont understand why what you've said is correct:
Trend lines are often used to represent the "behavior" of the values being used to look for a pattern.
I would argue that for large data-sets where outliers are prevellant and can't be removed that the use of Averages is very misleading... Median in those instances would be best and I find is most accurate most of the time... but yes either would show a trend.. Min and Max would indeed also show trends over a period of time...
Hopefully one day Microsoft will fix the "trend line" option for us wanting to make use of it more wihtout overlays or using features meant for other purposes... 🙂
