Migrating from Desktop Folder to OneDrive
Hello,
I have numerous files that are in use in my report, all of which are stored in a folder on my desktop. My organization is moving to OneDrive, I have moved all my files over to OneDrive and now I am looking to update all of these file path connections in my report to connect to their new locations in OneDrive. Does anyone know of an easy way to obtain the OneDrive file path?
I have attempted to follow the instructions in this article on microsoft's website (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-use-onedrive-business-links), but when I was viewing the file's details there was no option to select 'Path' (instruction step 2).
Additionally, I have about 50 files that my report pulls from, so if someone has any insight into a way to update these paths in bulk within PowerBI that would be supremely useful.
Thanks in advance!
Hi! If you have your OneDrive and or SharePoint folders synced to your computer you can open them on your desktop just like other files, but they will have the OneDrive/SharePoint path. If you do not have them synced, open the file in OneDrive/SharePoint, then click view in Desktop or edit in Desktop and when it opens in desktop you can grab the path 🙂

Can you share a screenshot of what you see in OneDrive? Another option to get the path is download the file from OneDrive so you have it open in desktop... click file, go to info and you can get the path from there.

audreygerred this is what I get, supposedly i should be seeing a 'path' hyperlink in there

audreygerred additionally, if I download the file from OneDrive, then the path would just reflect the Downloads folder from my desktop, no? Which would mean that it would not pick up if any edits were made to the document in OneDrive.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
