Keep subtitle when copying visuals

It would be great if when a visual is copied, the subtitle is included. The hover says 'copy image with caption', so this may be by design, however users would expect a visuals subtitle to be include...

    Hi helenodonnell ,

     

    I completely agree, this is a valid point and slightly confusing for many users.

    The "Copy image with caption" feature is technically designed to add a metadata text block below the image (containing filters and data context), rather than preserving the specific "Subtitle" formatting element located under the Title in the Visual Header.

     

    Since the "Subtitle" is a relatively new formatting addition compared to the legacy "Title," the copy function doesn't always render it exactly as "What You See Is What You Get."

    My Suggestions:

    1. The Workaround: Until this is native, the most reliable way to capture the visual exactly as it appears (with Title, Subtitle, and spacing intact) is simply using the Snipping Tool (Win + Shift + S). It renders 100% of the pixels you see.

    2. The Request: This is excellent feedback for the product team. I recommend posting this on the Fabric Ideas forum so we can vote for it to be included in the standard copy behavior:

Power BI currently does not preserve subtitles when you use the Copy > Image (or Copy with Caption) feature. This is a known issue documented by Microsoft and confirmed by multiple user reports—subtitles (especially when defined dynamically via measures) are omitted in the copied image. 
 
There are two possible option:

Use OS-level screenshot tools

  • Instead of relying on the built-in copy function, use your operating system’s screenshot utility (e.g., Snipping Tool on Windows, macOS Screenshot) to capture the visual directly—including the subtitle. This preserves the entire visual as seen on screen. Microsoft officially recommends this workaround.

Overlay with a text box

  • Position a text box immediately above or below the visual to serve as a subtitle. The combined visual and text box can then be captured via screenshot (or exported) together as one image.
