Issue with Data Discrepancy Between Power Query and Power BI Desktop

I'm experiencing a discrepancy when importing data from data query into Power BI Desktop. In data query editor, my table has 10 rows with a total order value of 100, which is correct. However, after importing into Power BI Desktop, the table shows 23 rows with a total order value of 280 (This is a simple example to help you understand). There are no relationships between this table and any others in the model.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any suggestions on how to resolve this discrepancy? 

I have tried to 

• Ensure that you are using the correct method to import data

• Check if there are any transformations or filters applied in the query editor 

• Ensure that the data is refreshed in both the query editor and the desktop environment.

the screenshots of your real case are from 2 different quarters. The first one is from 2024-Q1 while the second one is from 2022-Q4. Could it be that you are looking in the wrong place to validate your data?

That's right, I apologize for the confusion. What I'm trying to highlight is the discrepancy in a different way. On the desktop, it shows that Q1 - 2022 has the highest count/value, while in the actual data (in the data query editor), the highest value is for Q1 - 2024.


Here is the value for Q1 - 2022 in data query view, showing diffrent value than the one on the desktop

Your observation is very astute; however, this is a normal phenomenon.You're observing, but it's normal.

In Power Query, the data preview is merely a snapshot of the displayed data. The actual data loading and application only take effect after you click the “Apply” button. Therefore, just because the data appears normal in Power Query does not necessarily mean that the data loaded into the report will be correct. The data you see in the report view is the final result.

This explains why the data processed in Power Query might differ from the data loaded into Power BI Desktop.

The reason is that the operations performed in Power Query are only a preview until you click the final Apply button, meaning the actual data has not been successfully processed.
