Intermittent Scheduled Refresh Issue with Snowflake Connection in Power BI Report Server
Dear Team,
We have successfully established a connection between Snowflake and Power BI using a Snowflake ODBC 64-bit System DSN and a Snowflake Programmatic Access Token.
The connection is working correctly, and the "Test Connection" option in Power BI also succeeds without any issues. However, we are experiencing an intermittent problem with the scheduled refresh. Sometimes the refresh completes successfully, while at other times it fails without any apparent changes to the configuration.
Please note that the dashboard is published on Power BI Report Server and not on the Power BI Service (Cloud).
Could you please help us investigate and resolve this issue? If any additional logs or information are required, we will be happy to provide them.
Thank you for your support.

Hi there,
I’m not sure but here are a few things you could check, the “data source name not found” error combined with the “network name is no longer available” one makes me suspect the Report Server might be losing sight of the DSN or the ODBC driver occasionally, perhaps because the refresh runs under a different user context or the system DSN isn’t consistently visible to the service account. Double check that the DSN is configured as a 64-bit System DSN in the ODBC Data Source Administrator (not User DSN) and that the same driver version is installed on the Report Server machine.
The network error could point to a transient connectivity issue, so it might be worth working with your network team to see if any firewall rules or proxy settings are causing intermittent timeouts, you could also try increasing the command timeout in the ODBC connection settings under Data Load options.Best regards,

On Thursday, I had a lengthy troubleshooting session with the Infrastructure and Windows teams regarding this issue. After their investigation, they confirmed that everything appears to be functioning correctly and that they could not identify any problems with the network or Windows machine.
However, today we encountered the same error again.
Could any Power BI expert please support us in investigating this issue further?

Thankyou DanieleUgoCopp for Addressing the issue.
Hi AMR_SHARFELDINE ,Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community Forum,Below are the few points which can resolve your issue.Let us know if you need any further assistance.
- Verify that the 64-bit Snowflake ODBC driver (SnowflakeDSIIDriver) is installed and listed in ODBC Data Source Administrator (64-bit).
- Confirm that the Snowflaketest System DSN exists and that the Test Connection succeeds.
- If the refresh runs through an On-premises Data Gateway, ensure the same Snowflake ODBC driver version is installed on the gateway server and restart the gateway service after any driver changes.
- Repair or reinstall the Snowflake ODBC driver, as this error specifically indicates that Power BI cannot load the required ODBC client library.
- Since the issue is intermittent, check whether Windows updates, antivirus, or Group Policy are affecting the ODBC driver registration or removing the driver.
- If the driver is confirmed to be installed and the issue still occurs, collect the Power BI/Gateway logs, Snowflake ODBC logs, driver version, and Session ID, then raise a Microsoft Support case for deeper investigation.
