An installation of Power BI Desktop freshly downloaded [Version: 2.145.1262.0 64-bit (July 2025)] includes
\Microsoft Power BI Desktop\bin\ODBC Drivers\Simba Google BigQuery ODBC Driver\OpenSSL64.DllA\libssl-1_1-x64.dll which our scanning tool Wiz reports as being OpenSSL version 1.1.1q and going end of life in September 2023. Is there any update for this? Is there any way to remove it through Power BI Desktop? Since we haven't installed the driver, is it OK to simply delete the files?

Hi cp42nz,
We thank you for your question on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
From what I understand, the file called libssl-1_1-x64.dll that your scanner showed is part of the Simba Google BigQuery ODBC driver. This driver comes together with Power BI Desktop, July 2025 version. It uses OpenSSL version 1.1.1q, which is no longer supported since September 2023. This DLL file is only there to support the optional Google BigQuery connector. It will not run or load unless you actually connect to Google BigQuery from Power BI.
If you are not using the Google BigQuery connector, you can safely delete this folder without affecting how Power BI Desktop works:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Desktop\bin\ODBC Drivers\Simba Google BigQuery ODBC Driver\
Deleting this will remove the unused driver and the old OpenSSL file from your system.
Microsoft is working with partners to update or replace parts that use old libraries. We can expect changes in future updates.
We hope this helps you understand and solve the issue.
If you have more questions, please feel free to ask in the Microsoft Fabric community.
Thank you.
