I get no option to edit a measure, is there any way I can find out the underlying formula?

Hi all. Caveat, I'm extremely new to Power BI. Literally just been given access to shared company webspace (as an admin, and told to be careful) and downloaded Desktop to poke around/try things out. There's a report done years ago by someone who has since left. It is a page (powered by a JIRA data source, with some basic filters about issue types applied to the page) of gauge charts, most of which only show a single item in the "build visual" column, which is in the "value" property. This is tied to a measure that appears in the "data" column far right when I click on the gauge chart.

I went to the app.powerbi.com/whatever web page and exported the report as a PBIX. I then open the pbix in my desktop editor.

If I right-click on the measure, I get:
Check

Select

Measure

New Quick Measure,

etc

None of the items shown are "Edit Measure" as some help topics say I should see.  I'm trying to find out what someone did in the past to create that measure as there is no indication of what formula it is using to display a percentage on the report if I drag it onto a page.  Could some kind soul please tell me what I need to do to get a view of the underlying formula please?

Hi @Anonymous

There is the name of the dataset in that meassage and next to it, it shows the Workspace where it is saved. Once you locate it, download a copy and make your changes, when you upload make sure the name is the same of what is in the workspace, otherwise any connected Reports won't be able to see changes you make as a duplicate will be stored. If it is correct, you will be prompted to replace the current version

If you don't have access to the Workspace and there is no one to grant accesss, you can then access from within the Power BI Admin portal

Go to workspaces and find the Workspace in question, click on access and assign yourself as Admin. After a few minutes you should be able to see the Workspace in Power BI.

Hi @Anonymous

Just to troubleshoot. Is the Dataview available for you on the left of the canvas?

Do you see this message botom right?

If you don't see the Data view and you see a similar message, then the Report is connected to a dataset. You will need to locate the original dataset and you can change the emasures there or create new measures within the new dataset

Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe. I see report view and model view and the message botom right about being connected live to the Power BI dataset with a "make changes to this model" link.

How do I go about locating the original dataset and making changes to it?  In the online app or in desktop?

That was it! Thank you!  Found the dataset in the workspace, downloaded it, opened it in Desktop and I can now access the measure and see how it's been put together. Thank you so much @JoeBarry
