How to show data in reports based on user's SSO.

Hi,

We are using snowflake as our database and Power BI Reporting Platform. we use both Import and direct query as connection mode for reports, based on the requirement. data is masked in snowflake and based on user role in snowflake, access to masked data is provided.

1. Requirement is to mask or unmask data based on their snowflake access.

2. we are embedding service account for report credentials as of today and would like to restrict the data based on user SSO.

3. is there any w to way fetch the user SSO ID during report execution, verify access at snowflake and display the data, both is import and direct query. if yes, please let me know how to implement.

4. If RLS is the only method, please point me to any working solutions.

Thank you in advance

  • read about USERPRINCIPALNAME.  You could use that to modify the query against Snowflake.
