I have a dashboard which deals with Airline data. When the user opens the dashboard, no specific airline is selected and they see combined data for all airlines. The problem is that if they select a value in one of the slicers (currency), and then filter for an airline which doesn't use that particular currency, then the data is filtered for that airline and that currency, which results in no data being displayed.
What I need to do is have the currency filter refreshed when the filter is first applied and then a default value chosen from the available values, so that data is always displayed. The way it currently works, the dashboard appears broken and the user may not now how to get data to show (given how long it took me to figure out, and I'm the one who built it).
Here is the CCY filter (with 4 available currencies) when no specific airline is chosen. The small amount of data shown in the sliver of table to the right (ICCS, BSP, etc.) is what's relevant here. I'm only showing a tiny bit to protect data confidentiality.
Once CAD is selected, it looks like this:
Once I select KLM in the Airline filter pane, CAD still shows up as being selected in the currency slicer, even though CAD is no longer a valid choice for the KLM data. No data is now being shown in the table to the right, which makes sense, since CAD isn't valid, but isn't ok, since the user needs to see data once they pick their airline.
Also, CAD is still showing up even after I click on the slicer. It seems like it should refresh when it's selected?
Once USD is selected, we do see data in our table on the right, and the slicer updates to only show the valid values:
So ultimately what I'm looking for is when the user chooses an airline to filter, the currency slicer immediately updates with only valid values, and chooses one of those values and filters the dashboard accordingly, so that a blank dashboard is never displayed.
I'm guessing this is a basic issue, but I can't find the answer. Can anyone help? Thanks!
Hey,
Did you find the solution to this issue?
Hi @Anonymous
You might consider providing your dummy pbix that would be helpful for us to investigate it further.
You can upload it to the onedrive for business and share the link here. please don't forget to disclose the expected results and remove the confidential info.
hi @Anonymous - Unfortunately the slicer do not unselect based on the a selection of a secondary slcer - in your case when Airline slicer is selected.
One approach would be to restrict Airlines based on Currency selected - so if User selects Currency as Canada then only show Airlines which are applicable to CAD currency - so in this sceanrio KLM would not even show up when user selected CAD currency.
Then User would have to change the currency first and then select Airlines which are applicable to new selected Currency.
Would this approach be feasible for you?
Please mark the post as a solution and provide a 👍 if my comment helped with solving your issue. Thanks!

@Anonymous
I can suggest a BookMark way soltuion for this.
For Example you have Two Slicers -
1. Currency slicer
2. Location Slicer
and let us assume, any user selects CAD , his location should be CANADA
So Create a Bookmark with Status both CAD and CANDA selected in Each slicer
Same way US and USD Slicers Selection with another Bookmark
And Give two buttons for US and CANADA and connect respective bookmarks and then users will only select the Button and the sllicers gets updated autoamtically and its easy for users . Please share your Kudos
