How to reduce the number of measures in my data model

Hi!

For a customer, our company has been developing a solution based on azure analysis services data model and power bi reports using that data model. The customer is very interested to have self service possibilites but also to make use of all measure numbers for their earlier excel sheets. We have ended up with to many measures and now the customer are complaining about there are too many measures and the solution is too difficult to understand. We can see that. So the first thing is to hide or delete unused measures that are not used in the report. That is a terrible job to do. Perhaps you know about an easier way than doing that manually.

Next, how can we reduce the number of measures? there are many similarities in the measures like this:

  • Actual, Budget, Prognose, Difference of a specific basic measure (for instance number of dead fish, weight of dead fish)
  • Running total/accumulated value of a specific basic measure
  • Time intelligence of a basic measure

I guess here is a potensial gain in reducing the number of measures. Of course I am placing some of the measures in folders and that helps a bit. But I want to reduce the numbers of measures. I have heard about Calculation groups. Perhaps there is something there that can help,

I guess many of you have faced with issue and I am very interested to hear how to reduce the number of measures in your solutions

regards

Geir

Regards

Hi is it true that calculation group does not support RLS security ? Is it possible to use calculation group in some way?
