I have created a Power BI Desktop report that reads data from an Excel spreadsheet, which works just fine if the spreadsheet is not open already. I can accept that if I connect to an opened document the best I could ever do is read the saved version (like a Read Only copy), which would be fine. How can I do this though?
I had the same problem using PowerPivot in Excel, but got round this by writing some VBA that copied the file to a temporary copy, then read that. That worked fine, but I don't think I can do the same with Power BI Desktop.
Any thoughts?
Steve
Hi @Anonymous,
Based on test, currently power bi not support use "live connection" mode to connect excel file.
For your requirement, you can post this to idea.
