How to publish the report from Power BI desktop using different tenant?

Hi everyone,

I work for a client where they crated a B2B account for me, using my existing email address. Now I need to publish the Power BI report from Power BI Desktop to the client's Power BI Service. However, I struggle to do that as Power BI Desktop is not showing the client's workspace. How can I switch the tenant in Power BI Desktop so that I can publish the report to the client's workspace?

I logget in to the Power BI Service and switched the tenant, so there I can see the client's workspace.

Thank you.

Hi @rile14,

I'm just giving you the steps from @Bibiano_Geraldo's solution to answer your prob.

1. Log Out from Your Current Account in Power BI Desktop

  • Open Power BI Desktop.
  • Go to File > Options and Settings > Options.
  • Navigate to Global > Security and click Clear Cache under "Clear Data Cache." This ensures no cached credentials interfere.
  • Go to the top-right corner of Power BI Desktop, click your account icon, and select Sign Out.

2. Log In with Your Client's B2B Account

  • Click Sign In at the top-right corner of Power BI Desktop.
  • Use the credentials for the client’s B2B account (the one created for you by the client).
  • Ensure you use the same email address associated with the client’s tenant.

3. Verify Access to the Client's Workspace

  • After signing in, go to Home > Workspaces in Power BI Desktop.
  • Ensure you can see the client’s workspace where you intend to publish the report.
  • If the workspace is still not visible:
    • Verify that you have been granted access to the workspace in the client’s tenant.
    • Log in to Power BI Service (browser) and confirm the correct workspace is available there.

4. Publish the Report

  • Open the report in Power BI Desktop.
  • Go to File > Publish > Publish to Power BI.
  • Select the client’s workspace when prompted.

5. Switch Tenant in Power BI Service (If Necessary)

If you still cannot see the client’s workspace in Power BI Desktop but can see it in Power BI Service:

  • Log in to Power BI Service in your browser.
  • Switch to the client’s tenant using the Tenant Switcher (click your profile picture > Select the client’s tenant).
  • Once switched, return to Power BI Desktop and repeat the publishing steps.

Additional Tips

  • Browser and Desktop Tenant Sync: Ensure that the logged-in account in Power BI Service (browser) matches the account in Power BI Desktop.
  • Clear Cache: Clearing the cache can resolve tenant-related sync issues.
  • Role Confirmation: Ask the client to confirm that you have a Contributor or Member role in the workspace.

If these steps don’t work, let me know what issues you’re encountering for further troubleshooting!
