How to have two slicers so that one isn't affected by the other?

Hi all,

I've attached screenshots to show better what I'm asking. Basically, I have two slicers, both connected to the same dates. One shows the years, and one shows the quaters. If only one year is selected, it works how I'd like it to work.

However, if I select more than one year, the quater slicer will now have 8 quaters for 2 two years, but I'd like it to only show 4 quaters at all times. Similarly, if I have one year selected, but only select 1 quater, the other years will dissapear from the year slicer.

Basically, I just want the slicers to always display the years, and 4 quaters. I don't want them to change depending on what is selected in the other slicer. Any help with this is appreciated

Hi @Anonymous , You can use the edit iteractions feature to tell the slicers not to filter each other. Please see the link attached that details this process: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/service-reports-visual-interactions?tabs=powerbi-desktop

Hi @Anonymous , are you using a separate date dimension table? If not I suggest you do. Some useful links below. Once created you should be able to use the Year and Quarter columns from these tables for your slicers.

If you are still having trouble please post some sample data so that we have more information available to assist you.

Okay great! That solved my first problem. Now it seems that the default for the quaters slider is to display all 12 quaters (for a 3 year time spam). Would you know how to make it so that it always displays 4 quaters? So, for example, if I had 2022 and 2023 selected, instead of the quaters slider showing all 8 quaters, it would only show 4, and if i selected Q1, the graph would then display Q1 from 2022 and 2023?
