I'm trying to edit the queries in power query for a report I have but when I go to download the file to open on the desktop it does not give me the option to download the data.
I can download just the dataset from my workspace and edit the queries from there but I would like to have the report visuals in the file. Is there a way to either edit the queries in browser or somehow switch off the live connection? There was definitely a time where I was able to just download the report and the data.
The connections are all to files on a sharepoint site if that is relevent.
I have old copies of the report in the browser that also have a copy of the dataset that are downloadable so I'm just a little confused on what I did to turn on the live connection over the alternative.

this was "solved" here but the TLDR is that I just needed to recreate the whole thing which was annoying but not the end of the world and learned a good lesson and backing stuff up just in case.
Ultimately I just downloaded the dataset and used that as a base file to copy and paste the visuals from the live report into, some of the formatting didnt quite copy over but for the most part it was pretty simple.

Hi @Philfound1199 ,
If a mode isn't available, a tooltip explains why. For example, here's the message that you see if you download a report that's based on a dataset that's configured for incremental refresh:
"This option isn't available because the data model has incremental refresh enabled."
See the Limitations section in this article for more details on which mode is available in what scenario.
Best Regards,

How to get your questions answered quickly -- How to provide sample data in the Power BI Forum
The message says I can't download the data because the report uses a live connection. Is there a way to revert it back to a non-live connection or get around that? Do I need to just download the data set do the edits I need to do and then publish and connect the report to the new data set? That just seems like a clunky way to go about it.
Hi @Philfound1199, usually you get such message when report author (a person who published a report to PowerBI Service) decided to block pbix file download. This is defined in report settings:
So you need to ask the report author to publish it again with corresponsing setting. Obvosily, you should have corresponding build access to this report (again, decided by report owner).
Good luck 🙂
