How to deselect a row in a big table/matrix

If I click on a row, it grays out all other rows.  I understand that I need to click on a blank space in the visual to "unselect" and restore all rows to regular font.  But in the large matrixes there's no blank space to click on.  The data goes to the borders of the visual.  I researched bookmarks to do this, but it seems the user would lose their slicer selections if I add a button to "clear" a selected row.  Clicking on the scroll bars doesn't seem to do the job.  And if I click in the header area, my sort changes.  Does anybody know how to do this?
