I have an excel workbook and a region sheet within. After I import the table, I am getting errors for various cells of the postal code column in the region table.
As you can see, I am getting errors for the cells contoured with the green line in the previous image. How do I make Power BI to read all the data as-it-is?
Solved! Go to Solution.
The column has a numeric data type or a conversion to that type. Change it to text or remove the conversion step
It looks like Power Query is auto-selecting the Type as "whole Number" when it should be alphanumeric, If you look on query steps, you can select this step by clicking on it, then manual change/update the datatype on the column by right-clicking on the postcode column and then selecting change type, then selecting text.
If you don't have the Query Setting panel, click the View tab and select query settings.
I am still getting errors.
The column has a numeric data type or a conversion to that type. Change it to text or remove the conversion step
Changing wasn't doing any difference so I had to remove the conversion (changed type) and then manually select data types for each column as removing the conversion types resets the data types to Unknown.
Thanks.
