How to create a template which takes a parameter

I have an api which I use in my power Bi desktop file to fetch my data. I have this filter http://..... ?Filter = 'Project' eq 'Abc' for one user and for other users there are other Project values whose data they would be only interested with. I would like to know How can I create a power bi template with this Uri and in Filter value I ask users to enter the project name as a Parameter and my api reads that in backend and bring the data. Is it possible? Will really appreciate if someone can provide me steps to do that

Hi @PowerrrBrrr

Agree that you can create a query parameter for project names in Power Query Editor. When you connect to your api with Web connector, select Advanced option and split the url into several parts. For project name part, select the parameter for it.

Or you can also connect to your api with a fixed project name to create a query first. Then open its Advanced Editor, use the parameter to replace the fixed project value part in Source step. Use & to join them.

@PowerrrBrrr yes you can surely do this, create two parameters in power query, use these parameters in URI instead of fixed value, save file as power bi template. Next time whenever a user will open the pbit file, it will ask for the parameter value and then URI will get updated based on the parameter value.
