How to create a Slicer for comparing Weekly Construction Progress Updates from Multiple Weeks

Hi Community,

I am a novice in PowerBI looking to use it for creating construction weekly progress reports instead of making them on Excel. Although there are some solutions close to this question on the forum they are not exactly what I am looking for.

Background:

Usually, progress updates of a baseline schedule of construction activities(tasks) are made in the scheduling software (Primavera P6) on weekly basis. This periodically repeating weekly progress update date is called the "data date". Currently, I update the progress in Primavera P6 and export it as an Excel File and import it into PowerBI. The scheduling software does not record the date of the updates so I export a .xlsx file after each update to create a dashboard.

While I am able to create a dashboard for a single weekly progress update, I am not sure how to create a dashboard where I can use a slicer for representing the previous updates using a data date. Below is a publicly shared promotional demo GIF from a course on PowerBI for the construction industry that demonstrates what I am looking to do. Unfortunately, this course costs $800, which is pretty steep for me to afford.

Question:

Can the experts here please help me break down the slicer and advise on how to incorporate this? Should I maintain a master file combining all the individual progress updates export files or add each update as a separate data table or should I just add a column with the data date? I am not sure how to proceed further.

Thanks and Best Regards

You can use a OneDrive or a Sharepoint folder where you store all the excel files that you are exporting and use that folder as a source in Power BI where it will merge all these excel files. Be sure to have the structure same on all the files.

Please let me know if this is not what you are looking for.
