How to Visualize Kids’ Interaction Data in a Clean, Simple Dashboard?
Hi johnbarson5
The choice of chart really depends on the goal.
If the goal is to let users compare and rank the Top 5, then a bar chart is the best choice. Rectangles arranged from largest to smallest are the easiest geometric shape for humans to compare — our brain measures length very quickly and very accurately, much more than angles or curved shapes, even children can compare in this way 🙂If the goal is more about showing something cute or playful rather than helping the user compare values, then a pie chart can work. It’s not efficient for comparison, but people often like circular visuals. A pie is only appropriate when you want to show the dominance of a single category out of a whole.
A donut chart is generally not recommended. It shows a full circle, but the curved arcs distort perception. This makes comparison harder and can even be misleading — the curvature creates visual illusions that are well-documented.
