Hi Power BI Community,
I’m working on a Power BI report on Equality impact assesment that involves comparing Group A (the team) to Group B (the department) across key demographic dimensions such as age, gender, Sexual orientation, BAME, disability, and marital status. I have created multiple pages in my report to analyze these aspects in detail.
Here’s what I am trying to achieve:
Compare Group A (team) vs. Group B (department) across these demographics.
Ensure that filters (e.g., slicers for age, gender, etc.) remain synchronized across all pages so users can maintain their selections while navigating between pages.
I’ve explored some options like:
Sync Slicers: Using the "Sync Slicers" feature to apply filters across pages.
Filter Pane: Adding filters at the report level.
Bookmarks and Navigation Buttons: For user-friendly navigation.
However, I face challenges such as:
Ensuring visual interactions between slicers and charts are consistent across pages.
Managing filters that apply to specific visuals but not others.
Maintaining user selections when switching between pages.
Could you suggest best practices or advanced techniques to address these requirements? Are there any specific features or creative approaches I should consider to streamline this process?
Thank you in advance for your insights! This version explicitly clarifies the comparison between Group A (team) and Group B (department), making your request more specific for the Power BI Community.
I have a Power BI report with two hierarchical slicers showing organizational structure:
Selection Page-Affected (showing 6 employees under Systems)
Selection Page-population (showing 33 total employees)
Current Setup:
Both pages use the same hierarchical structure (UnitName4 > ChangedUnit-5 > ChangedUnit-6 > Employee Names)
Sync settings are enabled for Gender page on both slicers
Gender page shows identical counts (3 Female, 3 Male) for both Population_Selected and Affected_Selected measures
Issue:
When selecting employees in the Systems department on the Affected page, the Gender distribution shows 3 Female and 3 Male. However, the Population page's selections are not maintaining their independence, showing the same counts instead of the full population distribution.
Current Sync Settings:
Selection Page-Affected: Own page (✓), Gender page (✓)
Selection Page-population: Own page (✓), Gender page (✓)
Questions:
How can I maintain independent selections between these two hierarchical slicers while ensuring correct count propagation?
Why are both pages showing identical gender distributions despite having different total counts (6 vs 33)?
What's the recommended sync configuration to maintain separate filter contexts for Population and Affected measures?

Hi @BhuvanLekkala ,
You can create dimension tables for these fields AGE, GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, BAME, DISABILITY, and MARITAL STATUS.
Then create one-to-many relationships between these dimension tables and each of the two groups.
You can then use these dimension tables to build slicers to filter the two groups.
For example, here is my example.
The model relationships are as follows.
Use the Sync Slicer feature to keep slicer selections synchronized between pages.
The Edit Interaction feature allows you to change the behavior of an interaction.
For example, you can make slicer selections not affect specific visual objects.
