How do I use Unicode characters as markers in Azure Maps?

I would like to use various UNICODE characters as the markers on my Azure Map in Power BI. I was told I would first have to create a DAX measures using the UNICHAR function to do this. But how would I pass the Dax measure to the map for plotting? Thanks.

Steps to use the Measure in the Azure Map visual:

    1. Drag the Azure Map visual onto your Power BI canvas
    2. Add latitude/longitude or address fields into the appropriate geographic buckets in the visual (e.g, Latitude, Longitude and Location).
    3. Drag the DAX measure into the Size or Legend field well in the Azure Map visual.
    4. Use the Format Pane to adjust settings like marker size, color, and other properties for better visualization.
    5. This effectively assigns a unique symbol to each marker.

    Note:

Azure Map visual does not support rendering Unicode characters directly. Instead, it uses unique categories (like grouping) to distinguish markers.

If Unicode rendering is essential (e.g., showing stars directly on the map), consider using a Shape Map Visual (supports more customizations) instead of Azure Map.

Thank you for your detailed answer, Anjan Kumar Chippa!

The steps you've shared for using the Measure visual in Azure Map in Power BI are very helpful. Clarification on Unicode character representation is also key for those looking for more customization in their visualizations.

If someone needs to display specific symbols on a map, the option to use a shape map instead of Azure Map is a great alternative. In addition, adjusting the marker settings using the formatting panel can significantly improve the presentation of data.

I appreciate your contribution to the Microsoft Fabric community. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

      Best regards
