Hey guys and gals,
not really sure how to ask this question. But I've made some pretty awesome reports, for a newb, in Power BI. But the problem is I have it pulling from data in multiple excel workbooks. I download the data from two sites and then paste that information in an excel workbook. I want to make the reports automatic. I can get rest APIs from the two data sources but I have no idea what to do with those. I've asked for help understanding from the companies but get nothing. On top of that the company I work for is cheap and won't invest in making anything automatic. I've looked online but everything seems to expect you to have a certain level of understanding of rest API. I think what I need to do is create a server and then do some fancy code with the rest API. Can you point me in the right direction to get started in learning. Again I'm at kindergarten level if that. Maybe more prek level understanding on this stuff. My life would be made so much easier if these reports could be updated automatically. I've worked so hard to create these reports and it's sometimes a pain in the you know what to keep downloading information and putting into an excel workbook and then updating BI. If feel like if I could crack this code, then it's a skill I will have for the rest of my life. Probably won't get any responses. thanks for reading if you made it this far. I'll try to update this as I learn more for anyone else needing help in this.

Hi @Sirhawk3017, to automate your Power BI reports using REST APIs, start by learning how to send HTTP GET requests to retrieve data and import it directly into Power BI using the "Get Data" > "Web" option.

thanks so much for the quick reply! So I don't need to create a server?
@Sirhawk3017 My pleasure! No, you don't need to create a server; you can connect directly to the REST APIs and import the data into Power BI without the need for a server.
Check out the November 2025 Power BI update to learn about new features.
