Hierarchy slicer dropdown formatting

Hi there,

I'm trying to make a hierarchy slicer and hide the empty members so only parent filters with children filters have the little arrow next to them to drop-down. I figured out how to do this in Hierarchy Slicer visual rather than a normal Slicer visual.

However, I want the Hierarchy Slicer to appear as a drop-down menu to select from, rather than a list (see images for what it currently looks like, and what I want it to look like). I haven't been able to find any tutorials on this. Please help!

This hierarchy slicer needs to be condensed down into a drop-down menu rather than a list.This hierarchy slicer needs to be condensed down into a drop-down menu rather than a list.This is the normal slicer I have, and how I want the hierarchy slicer to look .This is the normal slicer I have, and how I want the hierarchy slicer to look .

@sknudson -> if that doesn't work then use native hierarchy slicer. Refer the link below:

Hi @sknudson ,

If you want to have the drop down slicer, select the visual-> on the top right corner you will see a small arrow -> click on that arrow -> select Drop down

@sknudson -> mark this as a solution if it helps you and hit the thumbs up. Thank you

Hi @truptis

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that works for Hierarchy Slicers. There is no arrow to select between list or drop down like a normal slicer.

I chose Hierarchy Slicer instead of a normal slicer because I can hide the empty members.

This is unique to Hierarchy Slicer visuals.This is unique to Hierarchy Slicer visuals.

Would you alternatively know how to hide empty members of a normal slicer? I haven't been able to find the same options (see image of regular slicer formatting options).

@sknudson , you that arrow drop down, you need to turn ON the "slicer header"

Currently in the screenshot provided by you it is OFF.

So, turn it on & then you will see that small drop down arrow. Then select Drop down.

Mark it as a solution & hit the thumbs up if it helps you. Thanks.

@truptis

That doesn't work with Hierarchy Slicer, a different visual than a normal Slicer visual.

@sknudson - got u!

This slicer can still be formatted as a drop down or changed to be single select. The single select allows a whole level of the hierarchy to be selected such as the whole types of resources or entire resource.

@truptis

My goal is to format the hierarchy slicer to look like the following image.

Note: this is the normal slicer without the functionality of the hierarchy slicer visual I am creating.Note: this is the normal slicer without the functionality of the hierarchy slicer visual I am creating.

I still want the functionality of the slicer to be multi-select, and to have the option for each of the 'child' filters to work. I just want the overall format of the slicer to look like the above image rather than a list that is bulky and in the way.

HI @sknudson,

I think the hierarchy slicer does not support switching to dropdown modes as a normal slicer.

Perhaps you can contact the visual author to add support with dropdown mode.
