Help to understand refresh or update a report

Hi I have made an effort to read about this topic and seen videos on youtube without understanding what really I have to do to update reports.

My workflow is like this.

1. Excel files located in my onedrive folder gets imported in Power BI.

2. Transform query and make a report with visuals.

3. To share this report I click publish.

To update this report next mont I have to repet the workflow.
Delete old excel file, get new excel file and make all over again.

I see that in power bi online in my workspace I have a dataset. There it is some options to schedule update/refresh.

Can some one please help me understand how to be more effective? My sources are most excel files in onedrive and sharepoint list. I do not understand how to make Power Bi update an imported files automatically

Hi @Anonymous,

You can refer to the following document to get data from the file link that hosted in OneDrive/SharePoint to design report. After you publish to power bi service side and update the data credentials, it will use the one drive to handle these source update.

@Anonymous , Make sure the file is updated on onedrive. Overwrite and schedule a refresh in power bi service

How will this effect the local pbi file. When I open the file in Power bi desktop do I have to click on update or will this be done automatic?
