Hi @Shivakumarh ,
Power BI Desktop uses your local network. Power BI Service Cloud Connections run from Microsoft’s cloud, not your VNET or your machine.
Because Azure SQL Managed Instance lives inside a private VNET, Power BI Service cannot access it directly unless you configure the correct connectivity path.
Please try below things to fix the issue.
If your security policy allows:
1. Enable Public Endpoint on Azure SQL Managed Instance.
2. Add firewall rules to allow Azure services & Power BI ranges.
3. Use that endpoint in Power BI cloud connection.
If public endpoint cannot be enabled,
1. Install an On-Premises Data Gateway on a VM inside the same VNET as SQL MI
or
2. Use Azure Gateway (VNET Data Gateway) if available in your Fabric tenant. This allows secure private connectivity without public exposure.
If my response as resolved your issue please mark it as solution and please give kudos.
Thanks,
Dinesh
@Shivakumarh is there any firewall rules that are preventing the service from connecting to the SQL instance?
