Super UserGateway and Desktop
Hi,
I have a new customer, who is running SAP and wants some Power BI Reporting. His IT is not willing to give direct ODBC access, but is ok with the Gateway.
Now I am not sure, what are my options for making the reports. From what I understand, I cannot connect Power BI Desktop to SAP via ODBC or SAP Hana connector as I would normally do. Due to the Gateway, I can only connect with Power BI Service.
So basically I am left just with using Dataflow to connect to the data source, do some basic cleaning (because merges are allowed only with Premium), and then connect to this with Power BI Desktop on top of that.
Is that right or do I have any other option? Thanks

Hi zenisekd ,
Depending on the issues your customers are experiencing, this setup is really common in environments with strict IT policies.
Data Flow is a powerful option for importing and processing data in Power BI Services. It is also true that some operations, such as merging, are limited to Power BI Premium.
In short, using dataflow is an effective approach, the way you describe it is obviously correct.
