Functionality to recognize newly added column in the source file

Is Microsoft ever going to solve this issue of Power BI not being able to recognize newly added column in the source file (unless you make some edits in the advanced editor)? I used Tableau and it can handle this type of modification in the source file without any problem. I don't know why Microsoft cannot add this to their app. Does anyone have any clue whether Microsoft will add this functionality in future edition?

    Hi Anonymous ,

AFAIK, power query will store previous data structure in query steps, these fields will also invoke in following steps, I don't think it is possible to dynamic change data structure of the query table.

  • Hi,

If the source file is an Excel workbook and if you brig over data from that workbook into PBI Desktop using Home > Get Data > Excel, then the additional column that you add in the Excel workbook does appear in the Table on refreshing.

Applogies for not mentioning about some modifications in the query. It does not recognize newly added columns if you have done any modifications in the query. Newly added column also does not appear in the Advanced query editor although it appears in the "Fields" section. When it traces the steps you have taken to modify queries, it cannot recognize the newly added column.
