Formatting a measure in Desktop that comes from SSAS Tabular

I want to format a measure in my PBI Desktop report coming from my SSAS Tabular cube but Formatting is grayed out. For example, I have Sales, which is currency in my cube and displays with two decimals when I bring it in. However, on this table I don't want to show any decimals and normally one clicks on the measure in the Fields area and goes to Modeling in the ribbon and Formatting. But it is not available. I know I can create a new measure in Desktop and then format that but that seems absolutely senseless. For every report, for every measure?

Your demand is a good idea, while it is not supported to format a measure that comes from SSAS Tabular in Power BI currently. You can post your new idea here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas , to improve the Power BI.

It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

As a workaround, you may set the measure's "Properties" to format the decimal places in SSDT.

So, this is also the case when you make a Power BI Dataset and then make a report from the data set. This forces all reports to be made where the measure has one formatting. But if you need it to be millions in one object and down to the penny in another object, this cannot be done unless you do one of two things:

1) build different PBIX files and publish the same data more than one time.
2) make a metric per data format, like Sales (with pennies), Sales ($ level), Sales (per thousand), Sales (per million)

Help. Neither of these really works well for enterprise publishing.
