Hi @craigmon
sorry for the late reply, you can try this
Concate =
VAR _selDepartment =
SELECTEDVALUE ( table[department] )
VAR _calculation_when_slicer_is_not_blank =
CONCATENATE ( Dept_Rank_Summary[Rank3], " " & "(" & Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2] ) & ")"
RETURN
IF (
ISBLANK ( _selDepartment ),
BLANK (),
_calculation_when_slicer_is_not_blank
)

@craigmon add as a measure:
Test =
IF (
HASONEVALUE ( Dept_Rank_Summary[Department] ),
if (
MAX(Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2])="", "",
MAX(Dept_Rank_Summary[Rank3]) & " (" & MAX(Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2]) & ")"
),
"Select a department"
)

Try to replace "" with ISBLANK()/BLANK(), that is IF(ISBLANK(Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2]),BLANK(),CONCATENATE(...))
@craigmon make sure to add this as a measure:

Thanks for that although i'm not really sure i I put the below as a measure as its a text column?
Concate = if(Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2]="", "", CONCATENATE(Dept_Rank_Summary[Rank3], " "& "(" & Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2]) & ")")
@craigmon you can use HASONEFILTER or HASONEVALUE
Test = IF ( HASONEVALUE ( Table[Column] ), <<your logic>>, "Select a department" )

Thanks for that. I must be doing something wrong as the below just continues to show select a department
Test = IF ( HASONEVALUE ( Dept_Rank_Summary[Department] ), if(Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2]="", "", CONCATENATE(Dept_Rank_Summary[Rank3], " "& "(" & Dept_Rank_Summary[Col2]) & ")"), "Select a department" )
