For Beginners to start
Hi Nayan2013 As a beginner to the analytics platform you can start understanding about the Statistics concepts. Then from Power BI appliation, understand the Power BI ecosystem of Desktop, Service, Mobile. Get familiar with the interface having Report view, Data view, Model view. Learn how to connect to basic data sources like Excel, CSV files.
Importing and shaping data. Common transformations: remove columns, filter rows, change data types, merge and append queries. Understand the difference between Import and Direct Query.
Star schema and snowflake schema. Creating relationships between tables with cardinality, cross-filter direction. Fact tables and dimension tables.
Start with simple calculated columns and measures. Learn the functions of SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, CALCULATE, FILTER. Understand row context and filter context. Then you can move on to Time intelligence functions.
Learn commonly used visuals like bar or column charts, line charts, cards, slicers, tables and matrix. Formatting and interactivity like drill-through, bookmarks, tooltips then start building a dashboard
Also you can participate in the monthly Data Challenges from Onyx Data, FP20 Analytics Challenges Group, etc (you can check for the updates in their LinkedIn page for more info) to showcase your learnings and building an insightful report.
