Filtering in Matrix Preview is not working in Online Power BI Service

Hello,

I am using Matrix Preview with some slicers in a report.

This is working in Power BI Desktop.

However, after publishing it to the web, filtering stopped working.

Can I get some help here?

Thanks,

Abhi

Hi @abhi428ece,

I have verified that I can still select elements on the Matrix Preview visual for cross-highlighting on Power BI service.

Could you post some screenshoots, or be more precisely with the issue, so that it can help us to reproduce it? It's better to share a sample pbix file which can reproduce the issue if possible. You can upload it to OneDrive or Dropbox and post the link here. Do mask sensitive data before uploading. Smiley Happy

Screenshots attached: 1 -> With out filters;  2-> With filters applied but data shown on screen still the same; 3-> Going to another tab and coming back, filtered data.

In Power BI Desktop, on selecting/applying slicers, data is getting filtered and is shown on the matrix preview with out any issues.

After publishing to Service, on applying slicers, matrix preview is filtering the data in the backend, however, it is not displaying it. i.e., it is showing the earlier data on screen.

I tried exporting the data, which is filtered as expected.

I tried downloading the pbix file and open it in desktop, but haven't seen any issues with it. Data is getting filtered and is visible on the screen.

On Powerbi.com/Service, I tried clicking another tab and coming back to the original tab. On coming back I can see the data filtered on screen.

So, after applying filters, if I go to another tab and come back to the original tab, it is showing the actual filtered data.

Also, after applying filters, if I am in the same tab and does multiple clicks on the matrix preview grid, some times it is showing the filtered data and some times it is showing empty matrix with headers.

Let me know if you need more information.

Hi @abhi428ece,

According to your description above, I just went to test it again. However, I still cannot reproduce this issue on my environment.

To further investigate on this issue, could you share a sample pbix file, so that I can publish to my Power BI Service to reproduce this issue? Or you can follow this video to use Fiddler to trace what is happening between your client machine and the Power BI Service and post the trace log here. Smiley Happy

I am having exactly the same issue as abhi428ece.

I have recently changed my matrix visuals over from the old to the new matrix visual, and now they are no longer filtering correctly in the online PBI service. Everything is working 100% in the desktop app.

The old matrix visual was working fine in both desktop app & online PBI service.

I have checked visual interactions and all are still ok. No table relationships have changed.

As abhi428ece correctly describes, if you apply filter then scroll to next page and back again, the matrix correctly dispalys info;

When selecting Priority 50 from slicer, all 3 matrix tables correctly filter (middle column P=50)When selecting Priority 50 from slicer, all 3 matrix tables correctly filter (middle column P=50)

When selecting Priority 80 from slicer, only red table updates correctly, yellow and green matrix tables remain showing P=50When selecting Priority 80 from slicer, only red table updates correctly, yellow and green matrix tables remain showing P=50

After paging to next page in the report then back again... matrix tables now display correctlyAfter paging to next page in the report then back again... matrix tables now display correctly

This occurs in IE, Edge, Chrome & Firefox.

It's a pity this wasnt addressed while still in preview... this new matrix is now generally released and now that I have switched to the new matrix visual I am unable to switch back to the old type, so my reports are no longer working correctly.

I'm having the same issue.

My matrix won't consistently update when I change my slicers (sometimes does, sometimes doesn't). However, if I switch tabs in my report and then switch back, the table is updated properly like I'd expect to.

This happens in both the desktop program as well as when I publish it online.

I managed to revert back to the old table matrix style, and I'm running both old and new versions in the same report (on different pages).

I'm now seeing the exact same inconsistencies happening on both the old and new matrix visuals, still only on the online version (Desktop is working fine for both). The inconsistencies are fully repeatable.

What I've noticed is that the matrix tables seem to be having the most difficulty transitioning from states where data is being displayed, to states where there is no data to display, as the images in my previous post demonstrate.

Anybody else finding the same thing?

I'm also seeing this same issue.  The matrix filters work in the .pbix file but once published, the filter 'ignores' what was selected unless you switch to a new tab and go back to the original tab.

This only happens when you select an item from the drop down where there is no data.  The filters work if there is data that matches the item you choose in the drop down.

Anyone hear of a fix for this?

Apparently i have the same problem.
