Export to MS Excel via PBI Desktop

Hey guys, is there a simple way to export data to MS Excel directly from visual via PBI Desktop? If not, is it even scheduled among the upgrades? Thanks and wish you a nice rest of the day 🙂

  • Hello  Fuzzo

In Desktop, you can right-click a visual and export data, but it only allows saving as a CSV file, not directly as an Excel file. If you specifically need Excel, the usual workaround is to export the data as CSV and then open or save it in Microsoft Excel.

If exporting directly to Excel is important, the better approach is to publish the report to Power BI Service, where users can use the Export Data option to download the visual data in Excel format, depending on permissions and settings.

Other way you can use DAX Queryview to copy data from Power BI to Excel if it is in Import Mode

another way use Power Automate to export from Power BI.

  • You can connect the other way round - from Excel you can run DAX queries against the local SSAS instance.
