Error when trying to create a scheduled refresh

Receiving the following error:

Your data source can't be refreshed because the credentials are invalid. Please update your credentials and try again.

I'm referencing a SQL database that I'm connecting to in the Power BI Desktop.  I only get the credentials error when I try to create the scheduled refresh.

Any ideas?

Hi @EMauterer

Ok that makes sense, int aht you are using the Personal Gateway.

If you have multiple users as you are suggesting then I would install and configure the On-Premise Gateway, much easier and more robust.

Here are more details: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-onprem/

Hi @EMauterer

Can you go into the settings in Power BI Desktop, then click on Datasets, and go to your dataset that has got the SQL Server Source. And then you should see the section called Data Source credentials

Power BI - DELETE 1.png

And under there you should have the options to add them in.

Also as a side note when you create the SQL Server Data Source, there should be an option to put in a Windows username and password that has got the required access to the database?

My credentials are not being accepted.  I'm able to login just fine in Power BI desktop.  ??

Hi @EMauterer

Can I ask where you are adding your credentials in the Power BI Service?

Is it in the Gateway section, or under the Dataset section?

In the dataset section.

If you have multiple Power BI report writers at a company, do you need a Gateway per user or one for the entire company?
