Edit data set published report
ah, thanks Anonymous , this appears to be the case therefore I can't change it.
If it's of any use for others this is the work around I have found (although clearly not ideal). I was able to save the datamodel to my desktop and then open it in the desktop app. This helps me explore the datamodel and see the formulas if I need to do that. I can also download the visuals in another file then copy and past across to recreate my original report. It's not ideal but it appears to work.
Hi LauraH ,
If your semantic model is Direct Query, download the pbix file and open it, then in the bottom right corner convert it to connection mode for import and you can see the data in transform data. If your semantic model is Live Connection's connection mode, then the data is not visible, you can create a visual object of the table dragging in the desired columns and then export the data to see the original data.
Other than that, the solution in this post might be helpful.

thank you so much Anonymous for taking the time to give me some real useful insights. I have followed your advice and when I open the downloaded file on power bi desktop, I see that it is on direct query. However, I do not have option to change the storage mode as it is grayed out. Any suggestions? I'm really grateful for your help.

Hi LauraH ,
It works fine for me through my tests. Did you have the original file in live connection connection mode and then converted to direct query connection mode? If so there is no way to convert to import mode again.
