ERROR loading MySQL data into Power BI

I was finally able to connect my Google Cloud Platform MySQL Instance to Power BI and see the tables, however, when I try to load the data into Power BI, I keep running into this error. I cannot find a lot of resources on how to tackle this problem. I have also done a screen sharing session with a support agent and they were unable to help me resolve this issue.

I downloaded Power BI from the official Microsoft website. I also have:

my-sql-connector-net-8.0.28 (8.0.33.1 returned errors) and

mysql-connector-odbc-8/0/330winx64 (which is compatible to my device)

Any insights would be appreciated!

Hi @cdog ,

This error may occur due to various reasons, such as an incorrect driver, a corrupted installation, or a missing component. Here are some possible solutions you can try:

  • Make sure you have installed the Oracle MySQL Connector/NET package prior to using this connector in Power BI Desktop. Currently, only version 8.0.26 is supported; other newer versions might cause a This connector requires one or more additional components to be installed before it can be used error message. • Try to clean up the data source setting ("file"->"options and settings"->"data source settings") and recreate the connection2. Also, check if you have selected the correct authentication type (Windows or Database) and entered the correct user name and password.
  • If the connection is not encrypted, you may need to select OK to connect to the database by using an unencrypted connection, or follow the instructions to set up encrypted connections to SQL Server.
  • If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Power BI Desktop or try checking your system's registry to see if the required class is registered. You can do this by opening the Registry Editor and navigating to the appropriate key. However, I would recommend being very careful when working with the registry, as making changes to it can have serious consequences for your system if done incorrectly.

I just uninstalled my-sql-connector 8.0.28 and reinstalled 8.0.26 without success. I am still getting the same error message. I also recreated the data source without issue. I did not attempt to check my systems registry because a class is not listed in my error message, so I would not even know what to look for there.
