Dual Storage Mode Omitting Records

I’ve run across another issue when utilizing the Dual storage mode. The following example demonstrates how records are being omitted from a visualization. This appears to be due to how the dual aggregation and interpretation works

Version 2.112.1161.0 64-bit (December 2022)

Present within the Power BI desktop application and service

In the following examples, there are two Key Account Customer Name values that are identical except that one has a trailing space. These should be treated as separate values, but Power BI automatically trims in some cases and does not in others. This is causing an issue within the Dual storage mode aggregation.

Example 1

This is a full DQ relationship, and the Key Account Customer Name field contained within the Customer table filters the Fact Invoice Header table as expected.

Example 2

This is a Dual to DQ relationship, and the Key Account Customer Name field contained within the Customer table is used to filter the Fact Invoice Header table. Note that this fails and is not producing the expected results as depicted in #1. No records are present.

Example 3

This is an Import to DQ relationship, and the Key Account Customer Name field contained within the Customer table filters the Fact Invoice Header table as expected.

TSHECKEL_5-1675949659271.png

Referring to Example 2, when the Show Items with no Data feature is enabled and we remove the filter, we can see the two records. One with the trailing space and one without.

Further, when a custom column is created utilizing the trim function, the filtering within example #2 works correctly.

In summary, there’s a bug with the way the Dual content is aggregated and interpreted which in turn is omitting records from visualizations.

This is similar to a dual issue I reported back on 2/15/2022.

Hi @TSHECKEL

From your screenshot, one row has cost total value 41 and the other has blank value. Which one is the row that has a trailing space?

In addition, as you have a Key Account Customer Name slicer in the report, can you check whether the two name options appear in the drop-down mode slicer in every example? Especially in Example 2?

@v-jingzhang

Thanks for taking a look a this issue.

Regarding Example 2

  • The value with the trailing space is the one with the amount. The blank value does not have a trailing space.
  • The slicer does not show two “Freedom” Key Account Name values. It only displays one.
