Delete imported data (required by GDPR)

GDPR requires that Personal Data be deleted within 30 days of such request by the data owner.   If I "Import" data instead of "Direct Query", how can delete the imported data, or ensure that it is ...

    Yes, your understanding is right. In addtion, if the path of your data source has been changed, you can't refresh your dataset even if you are using import.

Hi rowsandcolumns,

 

In power bi desktop, "import" will only import the data into your PBIX file(after saved). If you publish your PBIX file to power bi service and configure a schedule refresh once a month, the old dataset will be replaced by the new dataset. So you don't need to delete the old data manually.

Thanks for the response.

My confusion was that "import" and "(cloud) service" were interconnected.

I won't be using the cloud service so I can remove that from consideration, and only think about local files.

My new understanding is that Power BI Desktop Import is like MS Access importing of Excel data vs linking to Excel.

If the import PBIX  is saved, it can be managed as a local file.

If the import PBIX is not saved, there is not even a local file to deal with.

Is that all correct?
