Date Slicer want to keep or is null

I have a page level filter where date1 is after 12/15/16 or is blank, this gives me my desired result. However, I want to be able to use this in a slicer rather than a page level filter so dashboard end users can use the slicer to dynamically change the 12/15/16 date but without losing the "or is blank" part. Is there a way to do this?

Can you replace the blanks in the data? If you use a Slicer, I don't think you can handle blanks in this way.
