Hi everyone,
We're currently experiencing an issue with Dataverse tables. When we try to establish a connection through Power BI Desktop to an environment on Power Platform to fetch a Dataverse table, we encounter the following error.
Interestingly, we can successfully connect to the Dataverse tables using Dataflow Gen1.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why the connection in Power BI Desktop isn't working? We've ensured that the TDS option is enabled in the admin center.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the suggested actions, for now we will go for the temporary fix with the dataflow Gen1 and wait for Microsoft to comeback with a solution from a case ticket, we will update the community on this. For new I will leave this open.
Hi @Ldomal ,
It's been a while since I heard back from you and I wanted to follow up. Have you had a chance to try the solutions that have been offered? If the issue has been resolved, can you mark the post as resolved? If you're still experiencing challenges, please feel free to let us know and we'll be happy to continue to help!
Looking forward to your reply!
We are waiting for our internal infrastructure team to review if this is a network issue, once it is solved I'll reply with the solution. So far we are working with a temporary solution by bringing the dataverse tables via Gen1 Dataflow.
Hi @Ldomal ,
Based on your question, here is a little bit of advice and some suggestions:
1. Check Dataverse environment permissions
Ensure that your user account has permissions to access the Dataverse environment and associated tables.
Check the security roles in Dataverse to ensure that the roles assigned to you have sufficient permissions.
2. Verify Power BI Desktop compatibility
Ensure that you are using the latest version of Power BI Desktop; older versions may not fully support Dataverse connections.
If you have enabled the preview feature in Dataverse, make sure that it is supported in Power BI Desktop.
3. Testing Connections with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
Because TDS is based on SQL, you can use SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to test a connection to a Dataverse environment:
Use the following connection settings:
Server name: yourenvironment.crm.dynamics.com,5558
Authentication: OAuth or Active Directory - Integrated
4. Check the firewall and network configuration
Ensure that your device can connect to the Dataverse environment through port 5558 (the port used by the TDS endpoint).
Check the firewall rules or network security configuration to ensure that connections are not blocked.
5. Using Dataflows as a temporary alternative
Now that Dataflows Gen1 is working properly, you can temporarily load Dataverse data into Power BI through it until the Desktop connectivity issue is resolved.
6. Enable Audit or Diagnostic Logging
Enable diagnostic logging in Power BI Desktop for more detailed error information.
Check connection attempts in Dataverse's logs to identify configuration errors or authentication issues.
Hope it helps!
