Data from Sharepoint

Hello guys,

As i am pulling the data from Sharepoint using web. I have couple of questions and doubts like:

1). When i have pulled data from sharepoint excel file and created report, next month the data gets updated and the updated excel file sould be pasted in the same location/ Should be replaced on that excel file in sharepoint.

2) once either of the two is done from above point. When i refresh in power bi desktop will the reports get updated/refreshed accordingly?

3) When i change my pc/ laptop what steps i have to take to maintain the same data connection and same reports in PBI desktop without affecting report and connections?

Kindly help. Thanks in advance.

@ghouse_peer , as per my knowledge

1). When i have pulled data from sharepoint excel file and created report, next month the data gets updated and the updated excel file sould be pasted in the same location/ Should be replaced on that excel file in sharepoint.

Please check the link URL remains the same . So make sure the same file is overwritten

2) once either of the two is done from above point. When i refresh in power bi desktop will the reports get updated/refreshed accordingly?

yes

3) When i change my pc/ laptop what steps i have to take to maintain the same data connection and same reports in PBI desktop without affecting report and connections?

You may have to give credentials again in new PC

1) are you saying that its a new file with a new name, or its the same file on sharepoint but has new data in it. If its the same file the report will carry on refreshing as normal. If its a new file power bi will need to know about it.
2) if your pbix file is pointing to the right file, it will refresh, as long as that connection is set up.
3)not sure i quite understand the 3rd question, if its mapped on a network drive, or on sharepoint there shouldn't be any change you could just pick up the power bi file anywhere and be able to run it, however if its mapped to local drives / connections on your pc then it will have to change. Maybe if you can explain a bit more about your environment and why you would change pc.

If I took the time to answer your question and I came up with a solution, please mark my post as a solution and /or give kudos freely for the effort 🙂 Thank you!

@vanessafvg  My 3rd point was, Now i am working in one laptop which has PBI Desktop installed, created reports by pulling data from sharepoint.

After some days i might change the laptop .So again i will install PBI desktop in the new laptop. To retain all the reports which was created in previous laptop and connection to the same sharepoint file. what steps i need to follow.

Hi @ghouse_peer ,

For this point, you may publish your report to Power BI Service before changing the laptop.  Then you may download the pbix file from the report page in Power BI Service, open the downloaded pbix in Power BI Desktop , and you could edit it again.
