Data Source Error: Excel

Hi Team,

As one of my friend has shared a pbix file of the report done by him to me. The report was built in PBI desktop and data source was Excel files. Excel files are  located in his local machine.

So when i access the pbix file in my laptop and try to open power Query/Transform data i am getting this error as below image.

ghouse_peer_0-1650949458876.png

the path mentioned in the pic is from his local machine.

My question is

1). can i get the pbix file in any form from him with all connections and data source so that i can access even power Query.

2).Is there any way out like if i get all data related to that pbix file in my laptop and can connect to the same report without any break of visuals or relationships which is already created in report by him.

Please suggest me any solution so that i can work on this pbix file or any way to share the report in such a way that we get all data source and relationships/visuals already created in my workstation.

any solution is highly appreciated.

@ghouse_peer , seem like the file has moved to another place.

You can change the path using Transform data- > Datasource setting -> Change connection details

You can upload files to onedive and use it from there.

Hey @ghouse_peer ,

First of all you need to arrange the source excel file on which this pbi report is based.

Place that file in your local machine, and then as suggested by @amitchandak , change the settings to point the connection to the file location of your local machine.

That would work.

Hi @PC2790  Thank you for the solution it worked as u said,  later followed @amitchandak steps got the data. Thank you
