Data Modelling in PBIX file extracting data from Azure or SharePoint is slowing performance badly.

Hi Community,

I am data modeling in Power BI Desktop extracting data from Azure (only 20000 - 21000 rows) and another data model extracting data from SharePoint Online Site (only 16000 rows).

Even if I am opening a single data model in Power BI Desktop, the performance is hitting my laptop very badly. CPU is throttling up to 100% and pretty much staying there and Memory shooting up to 80 - 95 %!

And, I don't have many other windows open chewing up my laptop resources as per the screenshots. This has been the case most of the days and it is impacting my work and output.

My internet speed here is amazing… both download and upload speeds are 220 Mbps and consistent.

FYI - I am working on a brand new HP ZBook Studio x360 (Intel Core i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz Processor, 32.0 GB RAM, 64 Bit Windows 10 Enterprise OS) which I see is more than enough for any Power BI Development activity!

I got my IT/Hardware Engineer look at it this morning and he recommended to Flash the BIOS which we need and it's still the same. And now he is asking me to Re-image the laptop and I don't see any point in doing that either!

Should I ask my IT department to provide me a Desktop which is Intel Core i9 or above (if available) with 64 GB RAM? I didn't want to sound like I am too greedy asking for more.

Did any of you experience similar performance issues before and what did you do to fix it?

Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated.
