DAX IF/LOOKUP workaround

Hello all,

I have a direct query Power BI file, that management has restricted a lot of normal functions on. Ie. I cannot Transform data, add New Column or add New Table, or even bring in another data source (yay). I am needing a workaround of a vlookup, of which the desired results are not available in the file

The problem:

I have access to 15 Customer Industry Codes (a 2 or 3 character code) which won't mean anything to anyone in the report. And I need to turn them into a descriptive name. Concept of Vlookup the Code -> return the name. Is this something I can do in a measure?

The column is 'Customer Address Book Table' [Industry Code] and has 15 codes. One example, Code "IN" desired description "Internal"; Code "JTV" desired description "Joint Venture" etc etc. I tried doing an IF statement but I can't select the column because it's text.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @JNelson ,

Have you tried using a composite model instead? Import the data that has your lookup table and relate to your table that uses direct query.

Hi @danextian ,

As mentioned, unfortunately I can't import any other files.
