I've used other drag and drop query tools, and appreciate those that allow you to query data to create a table, and then run other queries on those new tables. As I investigate Power BI, is it safe to say that I'll be able to use that same methodology, using multiple steps and tables to get to an outcome?
Thanks. I know this is a softball of a question, but I was hoping to get this basic question answered before I dive into Power BI.

With Power BI, you build the data model and use DAX language to query the data using Calculated Tables or Measures. When you create visuals based on these table fields and measures, it sends queries to the data model to fetch data.
If you need to query the data as you do in other tools and your purpose is to see the data as summaries then, better use DAX Studio which can be installed then added to your external tool tab. It provides rich querying and optimizing capabilities.
