Creating an input field slicer

I was wondering if it was possible to create a slicer with an input field that would search a column in a table for the input text and then act as a slicer filter for the other visuals.

Hi @zahlenschubser

You can enable search in a slicer, is that what you are looking for?

Click the ellipsis ...

Click Search, then type in your search term and select any matching items

Hi,
I was searching for answer to same question. If my assumption is right - @zahlenschubser asks if there is a slicer with simple text input rather than Search & Select (where you must select the choice). Example - Cognos Reports would have a TextBOX as a prompt option.

This I think is available in Paginated Reports (at least when using PowerBI Report Builder). But not in normal 'report' because that one is dynamic and data or output visual refresh on the fly..

I guess you get there easily if you allow multiple select:s. Then you can search, get a list of even hundreds of boxes, and mark them all in one go.

That helps, but what I would like to have is a slicer I - or any other user - can input what they want to filter or search for.

Also if I filter in the way you suggested that does not filter my results, I have to manually do that.

Hi @zahlenschubser

Doesn't what I suggest do that?  Slicers don't have any other search functionality.

If I need to put a different visual to do this that's fine of course, I just thought if that functionality was included that would be in a slicer.
