Creating Column... Circular Dependecy

I am importing a table TABLEA from AAS direct query connection.

Lets say TABLEA has two columns...

  1. Location
  2. Sales

I want to add a new column called "Location Sales Total" which sums the Sales per Location. I want this as a new column to TABLEA, not a new table.

I have this DAX...

Location Sales Total =
var location =  [Location]
var sum_of_sales = CALCULATE(SUM(TABLEA[Sales]), FILTER(TABLEA, TABLEA[Location] = location))
return sum_of_sales

I received this error:

A circular dependency was detected: TABLEA[Location Sales Total]

Can someone help me and explain why this is happening.

(it works when I import data... maybe has something to do with direct query)

@spencerhoyle10 , I doubt you can create a column like this in direct query

Try a measure like

CALCULATE(SUM(TABLEA[Sales]), FILTER(allselected(TABLEA), TABLEA[Location] = max( TABLEA[Location])  ))
