Create button to move forward and backward through CONSECUTIVE months in Power BI Desktop

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to create buttons which allow my endusers to move forward or backwards through consecutive months. I'd like to have ONLY ONE forward button and ONLY ONE backward button and the option the press them multiple times and thus move over the months in the required direction, one month at a time.

For instance: assuming the current monthnumber is 7, pressing the forward button once should update the current month to 8 and pressing it once more should update it to 9.

I've tried this out using bookmarks, but I cannot figure out how to allow a usecase where the buttons are pressed multiple times in order to move backwards of forwards multiple months.

Any ideas on how this can be achieved ?

I appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

Cees

Hi @cvdiermen , Unfortunately functionality you’re looking for—buttons that dynamically allow navigating to the next or previous value in a slicer—is not fully supported in Power BI

PFA Community Links:

Buttons to go back months and forward in months in power bi

Select the Next or Previous value in a slicer

But you can use the Back button to return to the previous page of a report. You can also use DAX to work with periods in Power BI

Thnks a lot for your prompt reply. I thought i was missing something obviuos, good to know it's simply not there (yet).

Hi @cvdiermen

Just offering a possible option you may want to experiment with:

There is a custom visual created by @mprozil that is available on her GitHub repository called D-Pad.

As far as I can tell it's not in the AppSource store yet, but you can download the file dPad.pbiviz from the Dist folder in the repository.

https://github.com/mprozil/dPad/blob/master/dist/dPad.pbiviz

You can then import the D-Pad custom visual into a Power BI report and set it up to "scroll" left and right through values of a column such as Month.

One potential issue is that the D-Pad visual doesn't appear able to retain its state in the way other filters do, so it always begins from an unfiltered state when the report is opened.

Sample PBIX attached.
